Symptoms of Diabetes - Early Diabetes Symptoms
It is not always easy to identify and understand the symptoms of diabetes. They can appear and disappear and may indicate a variety of different health problems. There are some symptoms specific to diabetes, though.
Urinating frequently is a common symptom of diabetes. Increased glucose levels are also a defining diabetes symptom. With Type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce enough insulin and with Type 2 diabetes, the body does not use the insulin correctly.
You may also feel very thirsty all the time. You may not be able to drink enough water or liquid to quench your thirst which also leads to frequent urination. Likewise, you may feel very tired all the time. The reason for this is that your cells are stealing glucose from the bloodstream instead of getting it from insulin. Glucose is what gives you and your body energy to function and to keep your cells healthy and in good shape.
Diabetes can affect your body in a variety of other ways. You may have blurry vision which can come from a variety of causes. As you age, your lenses lose their elasticity, which means you can't focus. Diabetes can cause blurry vision for other reasons, though. Your high glucose levels can mean you don't have enough fluid in your body and your eyes. As your diabetes becomes more severe, you may develop excess blood vessels in the retina, causing your vision to blur even more or you may see spots or lights when you try to focus.
If you have Type 2 diabetes, you may find that cuts don't heal as fast as they should, especially on your feet. No one really knows why this happens but it is one of the symptoms of diabetes. Your immune system may become weakened if you have diabetes.
The symptoms of diabetes are similar to those of a variety of other medical conditions so you should talk to your doctor if you have any of these symptoms to get a proper diagnosis. You can get a blood test that can help your doctor determine with some certainty if diabetes is causing your symptoms.
